Bowman attended Pacers rookie free agent tryout

For the 6-foot-5 Bowman to have a chance to make the team, he will have to be invited to the Pacers' training camp, held in October. If Bowman does make the team, he will join former teammate Jerome Allen, who signed with the Pacers on August 17. Bowman, a Providence transfer, played his junior and senior years at Penn. In his first season as a Quaker, Bowman made an immediate impact off the bench, averaging 10.8 points and 2.0 steals a game despite receiving only 19.8 minutes a game. For his efforts that year, Bowman was named second-team all-Ivy and earned Street & Smith All-America honorable mention honors. The following season, Bowman lived up to expectations as co-captain, leading Penn to a share of the Ivy League title. He finished second in the Ancient Eight in scoring with 16.3 points per game. He also led the conference in assists and steals. As well as his offensive exploits, he is considered an excellent defensive player and was arguably the top defensive player in the league last season. However, a lack of an outside jump shot will probably be his biggest hurdle in making the pros. -- Michael Hasday
