Amy Gutmann is far from alone as a woman leading an Ivy League institution: starting in July, there will be three others.
Elizabeth Garrett is set to take over the presidency at Cornell in July, the beginning of Cornell's fiscal year, joining Gutmann, Drew Gilpin Faust (Harvard) and Christina H. Paxson (Brown) as a female head of an Ivy institution.
Garrett was previously the first female provost at the University of Southern California and is a graduate of Oklahoma undergrad and Virginia Law School.
The Washington Post detailed Garrett's move to take over at Cornell and how women are seeing more opportunities at the top of elite schools.
“It certainly is not a battle that has been won,” Garrett said to the Post. “But it is a battle that we’re winning.”
