Food at the GAPSA reception for new grad students

The annual welcome reception for new graduate and professional students was held at the Annenberg Center lobby. The two-hour reception was organized by the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly, the Office of the President and the Graduate Student Center.


City Council members have until Sept. 9 to come up with a district map of Philadelphia. This year, five Philadelphia groups collaborated to create FixPhillyDistricts.com, a website where citizens can log on and redraw the district map for themselves.

Tuesday evening, over 2,500 freshmen and transfer students escaped the rain and huddled into the Palestra for the University’s 272nd Convocation.

For the first time, College freshmen in the Benjamin Franklin Scholars program are living together in Riepe College House and taking a class together every day. The class will integrate different disciplines, including the humanities, sciences and social sciences, said BFS Director Peter Struck.

This fall, Elmhurst College applicants will have the option to answer a question about their sexual orientation. Since Penn has been recognized as a leader among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender-friendly colleges, students and administrators wonder whether the University will follow suit.




Redoing a floor in Kings Court College House

New bathrooms, hallways, furniture and floors were installed in the college house this summer. The roof, stairs and lighting were updated and student rooms were repainted and outfitted with new window coverings.









Clyde F. Barker Penn Transplant House

Located at 3940 Spruce St., the Transplant House opened July 18 as a guest house for the families and loved ones of patients receiving organ transplantation at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
