Even though both Penn men’s and women’s fencing faced strong teams at the Philadelphia Invitational over the weekend, home court advantage ultimately won the day. This past weekend, the Red and Blue fenced against a plethora of big-name teams, such as Duke, Northwestern, Temple and UNC.

It’s a busy weekend for Penn Athletics, as eleven teams will compete over the next several days with seven teams set to throw down on the Quakers’ home courts, pool and track on Saturday and Sunday.

At the Garret Penn State Open this weekend, Penn men’s and women’s fencing knew they would take on some of the best teams in the country, such as OSU, Notre Dame, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Penn State. And they came out strong.

This weekend, the Penn State Open will serve as a benchmark for where each individual on the team stands at this point in the season.

Saturday morning, the No. 8 Penn men’s fencing team defeated No. 1 Penn State and No. 5 St. John’s at the Temple Invitational before hitting the road with the No. 10 women’s fencing team for the third U.S. Collegiate Weapon Squad Championships hosted by Ohio State on Sunday.
