Team of the year: Penn women’s squash

Penn women’s squash bested Princeton to claim the CSA National Championship, avenging its loss in the Ivy League finals.

After a conference final loss to Princeton, Penn women’s squash bested the Tigers in the 2026 College Squash Association National Team Championship, ending a title drought of over a quarter century.

In a narrow 5-4 matchup against their conference rival, the Quakers reclaimed glory, winning their second CSA championship. Hosted at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center, the final saw a close competition, with both teams putting points on the board. Nevertheless, it was senior Jana Dweek’s dominant 3-0 sweep of Princeton’s Sonya Sasson that sealed the victory for the Red and Blue.

The championship squad also racked up several individual awards. Junior Malak Khafagy was named Ivy League Player of the Year, junior Franka Vidovic was selected as first team All-Ivy, and junior Sohaila Ismail and senior Malak Taha both earned second team honors.

The team went undefeated at home, which, with the help of men’s squash achieving the same feat, left the Quakers without a loss on the season. In tandem, almost half of the team’s 19 total matchups were sweeps, with no points given up to the opposing team.

The Red and Blue bested Trinity,  last year’s CSA team champions, in an impressive 7-2 fashion — a redemption for Trinity’s sweep of the Red and Blue in the national semifinal last season.

The only blemishes on Penn women’s squash's record were losses to Princeton in both the regular season and in the Ivy League Championship. However, they did not let those previous losses define them and showed a level of grit and determination that earned them the title of CSA champions.

Honorable mentions: women's swimming and diving; gymnastics
