Back-to-back.
Not only did Penn men’s squash win consecutive national championships securing their second Potter Cup in team history, but they are also The Daily Pennsylvanian’s team of the year for the second year in a row. Dominance would be an understatement for this year’s squash team. “Perfection” sounds a bit better.
This year, the Quakers went an unblemished 20-0 in regular season and postseason play. Remarkably, in 12 of those games, the Red and Blue swept their opponents 9-0 — which is over 50% of their matches. Further, 16 out of those 20 games the Quakers won by a score of 8-1 or better. Top to bottom on the squash ladder, there were no vulnerabilities on the team. At the top, sophomore and CSA individual national champion Salman Khalil led the way along with junior standout Omar Hafez. Seniors Nick Spizzirri, Dana Santry, and Nathan Kueh fortified the middle of the lineup.
With a target on their backs all season, the Quakers embraced the pressure of being reigning champions and thrived as the team to beat. History was made as they completed the program’s first perfect season, a triumphant response to their heartbreaking championship loss in 2022.
