According to 2014 College graduate and former Daily Pennsylvanian columnist Arielle Pardes, the best way to learn about porn is to watch it in class.

In her piece on Vice, Pardes explains the rise of porn as an academic area of study, complete with "Ph.D holders who are treating dirty movies seriously." While at Penn, Pardes took a creative writing class which required her compare and write about porn clips. Though initially finding her assignments unusual, she "learned to divorce the material from its sexually gratuitous nature and...discovered that through pornography, you can pretty much talk about anything," including gender, race, politics and power.

Though agreeing porn is not appropriate for every academic setting, Pardes argues that viewing it in such a setting can be insightful. "People are going to be watching porn anyway, they might as well be able to think and talk about it in a serious way."
