Amid the fallout of Rolling Stone's article on an alleged gang-rape at a University of Virginia frat party, sexual assault at college has been a topic on the minds of many in the last month.
The New York Times published an article on Sunday about an accused rapist and his accuser coexisting at Columbia. Emma Sulkowicz, a senior at Columbia, garnered national attention for her thesis project a few months ago, in which she is carrying a mattress around campus until her alleged rapist is expelled from campus.
Both Sulkowicz and Paul Nungesser, the accused rapist, are frustrated with the way that Columbia has handled the case and its aftermath. Sulkowicz and two others who accused Nungesser of sexual assault feel they have received a lack of justice while Nungesser says he is innocent and that Columbia has let mob rule take justice into its own hands.
Meanwhile, Callie Marie Rennison wrote an opinion piece for the Times about how young women who don't go to college are actually those more likely to experience sexual assault instead of young women at college.
