Penn was honored for its sustainability efforts at the Fourth Annual American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment Summit this past Wednesday.
The University became one of the first recipients of Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Award for Institutional Excellence in Climate Leadership, according to a press release.
Numerous projects contributed to Penn’s achievement, including the Penn Connects campus development plan, the Climate Action Plan and the Penn Green Campus Partnership — an extensive umbrella group of students, faculty and staff committed to promoting sustainability on and around campus.
Second Nature also commended Penn’s innovation in creating the Penn Green Fund, the Energy Reduction Fund, the Eco-Reps program and various sustainability-oriented initiatives in the curriculum.
Penn is currently the largest purchaser of green power among American universities and plays a role in the largest university car-sharing program in the country with PhillyCarShare.
