Penn prides itself on its ability to engage globally. The Penn Compact — Penn President Amy Gutmann’s overarching vision of how to make the school more eminent — views engagement abroad as important for advancing core human values of life, liberty, opportunity and mutual respect. A substantial portion of undergraduate and graduate students come from outside the United States, and the University has programs and relationships with schools in countries around the world.
As globalization continues to be a hot topic and knowledge of international issues becomes more important, it is only fitting that the University continues to expand international opportunities. We commend the Penn Law Global Initiative — Penn Law School’s expansion of established opportunities for students interested in international law.
The initiative — which includes a Human Rights Fellows Program, an International Internship Program and a Global Research Seminar — will both enhance law students’ education and provide them with more practical training in the international sphere.
As law students prepare to enter the working world, it’s important for them to be exposed to as many areas of law as possible and to be comfortable with legal issues all over the world. And for students who were already considering careers in International Law, the expansion of opportunities to learn about this field will give them a leg up when they enter the job market.
