Over winter break, students were selected to sit on the Commission on Presidential Debates. The group will be responsible for orchestrating the debate system to elect the UA president and vice president.

The commission is responsible for promoting and organizing the format, schedule, timing, location, topics and other aspects of the presidential debates.

UA Chairman and College junior Alec Webley appointed College senior Natalie Vernon — president of the Parliamentary Debate Club and Student Activities Council chairwoman — as chairwoman of the commission, according to Webley.

The members were chosen because they are representative of the campus community and are a “small and really diverse group of campus leaders who will do a magnificent job making these debates as representative and broad as possible,” Webley said.

Other members will include College sophomore Sam Bieler, NEC vice chair for publicity and Daily Pennsylvanian columnist; College junior Ali Huberlie, president of Penn for Youth Debate; College junior Jacqueline Chaudhry, United Minorities Council vice chair; College junior Adam Behrens, junior class president; and Wharton sophomore Barbara Gao as a non-voting secretary.

The UA Steering Committee voted unanimously to confirm these nominees, according to Webley.

On behalf of UA Steering, he said, “This is the most qualified group to bring the presidential debates into fruition.”
