Senior football captain Jake Lewko received acclaim for his performance against Yale Saturday. Lewko’s sack and six tackles — two of which resulted in a loss — earned him Ivy Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Lewko’s defensive corps held the Bulldogs to just 25 rushing yards and 163 passing yards Saturday in its 9-0 victory over Yale.
Another Penn athlete, freshman soccer player Travis Cantrell, earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors along with Brown’s Thomas McNamara.
Cantrell netted his first goal 22 minutes into the Quakers’ matchup against Yale Saturday afternoon. With the Downingtown, Pa., native’s performance, Penn was able to top the Bulldogs, 1-0, in Yale’s first Ivy-League play.
In addition, sprint football junior Raiam Dos Santos earned the Collegiate Sprint Football League’s Special Teams Player of the Week honors in week five for the third time this season.
Against Cornell two weeks ago, Dos Santos pinned the Big Red within their own 20-yard line three times with his stellar punts.
The Rio di Janeiro, Brazil native also kicked a 28-yard field goal in overtime.
The multi-faceted Dos Santos also caught a three-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Clarke Armatis with just 55 seconds left in the third quarter.
