Harvard University has announced that it will stop accepting transfer applications for the next two academic years because there is no place available to house transfer students.
Additionally, Harvard did not accept any transfer students for this year's admissions cycle and refunded the students' application fees.
Penn has no plans to follow suit, interim Dean of Admissions Eric Kaplan said.
"We really think that transfer students add a different dimension to the community," he said.
Kaplan added that he is not concerned about a shortage of housing for transfer students because a large percentage of Penn students live off-campus and spend time abroad.
Representatives from Penn business services - which handles housing - declined to comment because they felt the issue pertained more to admissions than to housing.
According to the Harvard admissions Web site, the university plans to raise money to "renovate and revitalize its residential spaces" before admitting transfer students again.
