Former Wharton professor Scott Ward, currently serving a federal prison sentence for child pornography, is facing new charges for allegedly transporting and shipping child pornography and lying to the U.S. State Department.
Ward, 65, allegedly shipped images of himself engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year-old boy, according to an indictment filed today by U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan.
The indictment also accuses Ward of falsely saying he knew the boy's family and using his Wharton position to try to help the boy obtain a visa to the United States.
Ward, a former Marketing professor, was arrested in August 2006 after child pornography was discovered on his laptop and on DVDs during a routine luggage check at Dulles International Airport. Charges against him were originally filed in Pennsylvania in September 2006 after child pornography was found in his Huntsman Hall office.
Ward retired from Penn in 2005 but taught until shortly after his arrest.
He is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for producing child pornography for importation into the United States. He pleaded guilty to that charge last May.
