6-foot-10, 230-pound power forward Andrew Van Nest is seriously considering playing basketball at Penn, according to his father, Jeffrey Van Nest.
The Weston, Mass. native, whose mother graduated from the University, has scheduled an official visit to Penn during the weekend of September 29th.
His recruitment is being handled at least in part by Penn assistant Mike Martin.
"An official visit, as I understand it . is a big commitment," the elder Van Nest said. "[Penn] is obviously very high on his [list]."
Reached at his home yesterday, Jeffrey would not reveal what other schools his son is looking at or comment on specific aspects of his recruitment to Penn.
Published reports have linked him to UMass, Princeton, Harvard and Davidson, among others.
This year, Van Nest will enter his second year at Northfield Mt. Hermon, where last year's graduating class committed to such schools as UMass, La Salle and Notre Dame. Van Nest averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game two years ago, during his last season at Weston High School.
