A male student reported that he was robbed on the 100 block of S. 39th Street early Saturday morning, Division of Public Safety officials said.

The student, 20, was walking while intoxicated from Allegro's Pizza at 40th and Spruce streets to his residence, near the scene of the crime, at about 12:15 a.m. when he saw one male and one female in or near a car.

The student thought he heard someone in the car speak to him, and he approached the vehicle. He believes he was grabbed and pushed into the car, though he is unsure how exactly he ended up in the vehicle, DPS officials said.

With the male suspect sitting in the backseat with the victim, the student reported that the female suspect drove him to two ATM machines.

Attempts to withdraw money from the machines were unsuccessful. DPS officials said they did not know if the machines did not function properly or if the student ever inserted his card to withdraw money.

The student did not know the locations of the ATM machines, DPS officials said.

The only money taken was $3, stolen from the student's wallet.

The student reported that, at the second ATM machine, he ran away from the suspects and back to his apartment.

Neither suspect showed a weapon.

The student received minor scrapes, which he believes were the result of falling while running back to campus.

He returned to his apartment and reported the incident to Penn Police Saturday afternoon.

The student could not provide a description of the suspects and there were no other witnesses.

Penn Police detectives are currently investigating the report. Yesterday, they conferred with Philadelphia Police to determine if there had been any similar pattern of activity elsewhere in the area, but no such occurrences had been reported.

The incident is the fifth robbery reported in the Penn Police patrol area, which extends from 30th to 43rd streets and from Baltimore Avenue to Market Street, since March 9.

Arrests have been made in three of the other four cases, and the student in Saturday's incident is the only complainant affiliated with the University.
