Students looking for a second helping of College Pizza near campus may be in for a long wait.
The student eatery relocated to the upstairs of Strikes bowling alley this semester and originally planned to open a new, independent restaurant at the intersection of 42nd and Chestnut streets.
But those plans have now been shelved indefinitely, leaving the Strikes location as the only College Pizza option for the time being.
"We're just concentrating on getting this phase going," College Pizza manager George Ballouz said of the decision.
He said there is currently no time frame for the new restaurant, but maintains that the business still has plans to expand.
Once opened, the Chestnut Street branch will be "more of a sit-down restaurant," Ballouz said, adding he had yet to decide even what sort of food - apart from pizza - will be served.
The reason for having a menu with greater variety at the Chestnut Street location, Ballouz said, comes from a belief that students will not walk another block or two for just pizza.
Another restaurant would have "to be a different concept" in order to be successful, Ballouz said.
Ballouz rejected the idea that finance or lack of success of the Strikes location was an issue.
"I just want to concentrate here," he said.
The bowling-and-pizza concept behind moving to Strikes was a big change in itself, and few students have been aware of the new location.
"I didn't even notice there was a pizza place when I was there," College freshman Caroline Harmstone said, "They should make it more obvious."
College Pizza's original location on the 3900 block of Walnut Street was closed by the University in the fall to make way for the construction of a 14-story apartment complex that will include one floor of retail stores.
Construction - which began at the beginning of this semester - is scheduled to be completed by August 2008.
