The men's and women's fencing teams started off the season with a bang this weekend, each going undefeated in the Penn State Multi-Meet. The women topped Duke 16-11, Drew 22-5 and Haverford 25-3, while the men defeated the same three schools, each by 19-8.
While the teams Penn faced in the meet are not Ivy or NCAA Championship caliber, the Quakers won with ease. These were not the most important matches of the year, but the teams take every meet seriously.
"Every game counts toward postseason selection," coach Dave Micahnik said. "We were concerned about the teams and took them very seriously, and the result is people won".
The teams host Rutgers in their first home meet of the young season on Saturday.
