Katy Cross named Ivy League Player of Week

The Penn women's soccer team's one-woman wrecking crew that is junior Katy Cross keeps on rolling.

Cross recently earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for her play against Lehigh Thursday, when she contributed on all five of Penn's goals in a 5-2 victory over the Engineers. Cross tallied four goals against Lehigh, while dishing out the fifth assist.

With this effort, Cross broke the program record for points in a game. Earlier in the season against UNC-Greensboro, Cross also became Penn's career leader in points and goals. The junior also holds the single-season record for points (34) and goals (14).

With Saturday's game against Princeton remaining, Cross has 13 goals and 32 points on the season. She also leads the Quakers with six assists.

After Penn's most recent 2-1 loss at Brown on Saturday, the Quakers stand at 8-5-3 overall, 2-3-1 in Ivy play.

Princeton enters Saturday's game with a 11-1-3 record, 4-1-1 in the Ivy League.

Quakers move up two spots in I-AA poll

After a 24-21 victory over Brown on Saturday, the Penn football team moved up to No. 9 in the Sports Network's Division I-AA poll, finishing with 1,464 points.

However, the Quakers fell to No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today Poll, after being ranked No. 11 last week.

M. Fencing kicks off season at Temple Open

Ready, fight.

The Penn men's fencing team began its season this weekend at Temple's McGonigle Hall with the Temple Open, placing seven individuals in the two-day event.

Quakers junior Andrew Radu led the charge, tucking by Rutgers' Jesse Schibilia to take first in the foil competition, 15-14.

As a team, Penn blitzed by its competition in the foil, with junior Stephen Gavalas and sophomore Brian Sohn tying for third and freshman Michael Galligan finishing fifth.
