Due in large part to the events of Sept. 11, security at Franklin Field will be increased for tomorrow's game against Holy Cross, and likely for the remainder of the season.

The biggest changes are that large bags and backpacks are prohibited and smaller bags and pocketbooks "will be subjected to a search by security personnel," according to University Police Chief Tom Rambo.

Also, as is standard, no cans, bottles and coolers will be allowed in the stadium.

Parking will also be restricted on 33rd Street, with no double parking allowed on 33rd and the 3200 block of South Street.

Additional uniformed Penn Police officers will be in attendance, and since the Federal Aviation Administration has restricted air spaces throughout cities, no aircraft are allowed to fly over Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon.

Signs will be posted around the stadium reminding people of the changes.

"In light of everything, we've taken reasonable steps," Rambo said. "It's nothing out of the ordinary compared to other locations."

Rambo expects the increased security to stay in place for the remainder of the season.
