'DP' corrects M. Crew story: Lwt. Crew takes fifth place

The top Penn lightweight eight, rowing under the name "Quaker Rowing Club," finished fifth out of 25 entrants with a time of 13 minutes, 54.22 seconds for the 2 3/4 mile Schuylkill course. The U.S. National team, which rowed as "Princeton Training Center," won the event with a time of 13:17.74. The Quakers trailed just two collegiate crews -- Yale and Rutgers -- while beating Georgetown, Princeton and a host of other top college crews. The Quakers third varsity eight finished 23rd in the lightweight eight event with a time of 15:50.54. In the Club Eight event, the Penn lightweight junior varsity eight finished ninth at 14:31.56 in a field of 40 crews. While the DP correctly reported the men's heavyweight eight's fourth-place finish, it did not report the finish of the heavyweight JV eight, which placed 12th in the Championship Eight event. The third varsity eight finished 23rd in the Club Eight event. The lightweight freshman eight placed fifth in the 37-crew novice/freshman field, ahead of many heavyweight crews, and just three places and 25 seconds behind Penn's top freshman heavyweight crew. The DP regrets the errors.
