LETTERS: Rugby's hard-earned recognition

To the Editor: Many people have never seen a rugby match, and most will probably question the fact that women play. Well, women do play -- and in record numbers. Women's rugby is the fastest growing club sport on college campuses in the country. Also, last May, the U.S. National Women's Team made it to the finals of the World Cup championships. Recently, rugby has made two crucial steps on the road to mainstream acceptance in America. Within the past year, rugby was placed on the NCAA's Emerging Sports list and the national governing body was accepted into the U.S. Olympic Committee. These are very exciting steps indeed, but for now I will be content to read such encouraging articles in The Daily Pennsylvanian. Ines Rodriguez College '97 Vice President, Philadelphia Women's RFC U.S. National Team Member Greek urban legend To the Editor: Sororities hold parties off the premises of their houses not because of some nonexistent state law equating the houses with brothels, but because they are required to do so by their national organizations, usually for liability reasons. I'm surprised that the Panhellenic Council president would cite some urban legend, and its apparently of recent origin. I was involved with sororities at Penn from 1978 to 1994 and never heard of such a thing until now. K. Thomas College '81
