Administrators should quickly approve the proposed College and Law School submatriculation program. Now that College administrators have designed a submatriculation program with the Law School, the appropriate committees need to approve it as soon as possible so that current juniors can take advantage of the opportunity. The proposal must first pass the Committee on Undergraduate Education in mid-November before being voted on by the College Faculty Committee and the Law School. A joint program between the Law School and the College is natural because of the significant number of College graduates who apply to law schools. If this program is not passed quickly, it may be shelved when College Dean Robert Rescorla steps down in January or lost in the shuffle when School of Arts and Sciences Interim Dean Walter Wales is replaced. The College can learn from the mistakes made by the Wharton-Law program that contributed to the low turnout for the program's first-year. First, the committees should approve the program post haste. And once the program is ready for applicants, the College should publicize it as much as possible to avoid having the enrollment problems the Wharton program does. This initiative promotes the University's interdisciplinary goals. And students should be rewarded with the opportunity to get a Juris Doctor degree with all due process.
