The Penn men's tennis team recently competed in its second tournament of the year, and came back satisfied with its results. Penn had an extremely successful tournament last weekend at the Tim Berman Invitational at Swarthmore. The Quakers, comprised of six freshmen and two sophomores, competed in four flights of singles and doubles competition. Penn took three out of the four flights of singles, and one flight in doubles. Freshman David Graziani led the Quaker attack. Graziani won the flight 'A' singles draw, beating teammate J.J. Cramer 6-3, 6-2 in the finals. Graziani split sets in his first-round match and then breezed through the second and third rounds. Then he returned to his first-round form in the semifinals, escaping with a three-set victory. "I had two tough matches, in the first round and the semis," Graziani said, "but I played the best I've played since I've been here." Graziani and classmate Ian Enverga lost in the first round of the flight 'B' doubles. Enverga was not as successful as Graziani in his singles play, losing a tough three-set match in the first round of flight 'B' singles. Freshman Marc Fisicaro won the flight 'B' singles draw, and with Brian O'Grady won the flight 'C' doubles draw. Cramer and Jon Aspatore also had a good tournament, making it to the semis of the flight 'A' doubles. Penn is now looking forward to next weekend's tournament, the Princeton Invitational, where the Quakers hope to once again follow in Graziani's foot steps.
