A man exposed himself to a student on the first floor of Van Pelt Library yesterday, University Police said last night. The man, who University Police Sergeant Ivan Kimble said has had other run-ins with the department, was apprehended by police and brought to police headquarters for questioning, Kimble said. The witness did not wish to press charges and the man was released with a warning. Kimble said indecent exposures, such as this one, happen only "once in a blue moon." In 1989, four incidents of indecent exposure in Van Pelt were brought to the attention of library officials. In an unrelated incident, a man attempted to rob another man with a gun on the 3800 block of Sansom Street Tuesday night. The would-be victim fled after seeing the weapon and the thwarted robber fled as well, Kimble said. Kimble added that after a thorough search of the area, the would-be assailant was not found. He was last seen heading east on Sansom Street. In another unrelated incident, a student was "flim-flammed" out of $800, according to Kimble. The scam was committed by a male and a female driving a 1979 Lincoln Continental. Kimble said no arrests have been made. Kimble said he does not know the specifics of the situation, but added that there have been "flim-flams" before and students have lost large sums of money as a result.
