Just one more point to underscore the need for equity as outlined in Harold Ford's recent column (DP 4/9/92): my father related to me that when he was in basic training at Camp Lejune during World War II, blacks were not only forbidden to ride in the front of any bus leaving town -- they were forbidden to ride in back, if there were whites waiting for seats. There were people -- mostly enlisted men and/or their families -- who waited for hours or even days before they were allowed to board a bus. MARYANNE NUZZO Coordinator Development
