This past Saturday night, a committee of Wharton Graduate and Law students hosted their 14th annual "Fight Night" to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia. This year's event was the most attended ever, bringing 2,500 graduate students from different schools across campus to the Palestra to cheer on the fighters. Fight Night Co-Chair and third-year Penn Law student John Kostelnak said this year’s event was the most expensive to organize compared with other Fight Nights in the past, but sold more tickets than ever before and the committee hopes to raise over $70,000. Penn students, staff, and faculty came together on Feb. 22 to protest gun violence. Despite the rain, participants stood for an hour with umbrellas and paper signs indicating the date, location, and fatalities of recent mass shootings in the U.S., including the one that happened at Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14.
“It just keeps happening so repeatedly, and there’s never a lesson learned,” College senior Corey Loftus said. “I think it’s important that we do something about it.”

Millions of people attended the victory parade for the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday. Every one of them withstood sub-freezing temperatures, wind chills, and congested trains just for a chance to catch a glimpse of their athletic heroes. We went out to take their portraits, listen to their stories, and learn why Philadelphia is known for having "the greatest fans in the world." Following the Eagles' Super Bowl victory Sunday night, Center City transformed into a sea of chaos as residents of Philadelphia stormed the streets in celebration. People danced on cars, honked their horns, climbed up lampposts, launched fireworks, and screamed "Go Birds!" It was the Eagles' first Super Bowl victory ever. Thousands of activists marched through Center City on Jan. 20 2018 for the second Women's March on Philadelphia.
The massive group of participants included Penn students, young children, elderly adults, and pets. Departing from Logan Square, demonstrators paraded up the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to Eakins Oval for a rally in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Many marchers could be seen wearing pink "pussy hats" and carrying signs with slogans on topics such as gender equality, climate change, and religious freedom.
The rally in Philadelphia was one of dozens that were held around the country for activists to demonstrate their persistent critiques on President Donald Trump and his administration.

To cap off a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., residents of W.E.B. Du Bois College House and members of the community at large precessed in silence from Du Bois to the compass, where they held a candlelight vigil organized by the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Following the lighting of the candles, the congregation sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing," held a prayer, and returned to Du Bois, where commemorations continued until 10 p.m. (Photos by Julio Sosa and Lulu Wang)
The Quakers headed down south for their November break, with the men traveling to Ft. Myers, Florida for the Gulf Coast Showcase, and the women flying to Bimini, The Bahamas to compete in the Junkanoo Jam. The men's team finished the tournament in 3rd place after posting wins over Northern Illinois and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The women's team dropped the first game of their tournament to Georgia Tech, but clawed their way back from an 18-point deficit in their second game to beat Missouri State.
