The Ivy League has long prided itself as home to some of the most intelligent, creative, enterprising young minds in the world. And now those minds have been put to a new use -- making porn. Porn 'n' Chicken -- a Yale University student group that meets weekly to eat fried chicken, drink beer and watch pornography -- is now shooting its own feature-length pornographic film. The Staxxx, as the work-in-progress is called, will be written, produced, directed and acted in by students. "At this point, the movie will include heterosexual and homosexual sequences, as well as scenes exploring fetishism, group sex and non-physical intercourse," the underground club wrote in an e-mail statement. Last November, the group posted flyers around campus inviting students to become a part of the project. "The response was overwhelming," the club wrote. "Several dozen people of both genders and all sexual orientations contacted Porn 'n' Chicken about acting in or assisting the production of the film." Meetings for interested students were held in December, and shooting for some scenes began at the end of last semester. The filmmakers anticipate that a final product, to be shown campus-wide, will be ready by early April. Confidentiality has been a major factor in the project, and Porn 'n' Chicken said it will assure total discretion, if requested, as many participants intend to pursue political careers. The film's title, The Staxxx, refers to the stacks of books in Yale's Sterling Memorial Library, where students are rumored to have sex. "I don't know that there is anything auspicious about the stacks, but it's sort of a neat place to get it on," said Yale senior Colin Spoelman, who said many of his friends are involved in the film. "There are adventurous people that I know who have done that." While librarians at the Sterling Memorial Library say they have not seen anything, the film's producers claim that they have actually filmed in the library stacks. Reference librarian Fred Musto is doubtful that anything will actually happen in the stacks. "There have been no sightings of any sexual activity in the stacks, but who knows what's going to happen," he said. "We're aware of the stories but we're taking it rather lightly." Denali Dasgupta, a freshman in a band called General TSO and the Tenderbites -- which recorded some musical tracks for the film -- said she found that the members of Porn 'n' Chicken were surprisingly nonchalant about the endeavor. "It seemed like a regular thing," Dasgupta said. "We tried not to be uncomfortable. They seemed pretty nice." Dasgupta said her band recorded "standard cheesy porn music" for the group. News of The Staxxx has caught the interest of publications nationwide, and Porn 'n' Chicken says they have been approached by media ranging from Hustler magazine to The New Yorker. A New York City television crew has also been on Yale's campus, trying to discover exactly who is behind Porn 'n' Chicken. "Honestly, we're trying to not let the media affect the shooting of our film and our regular weekly meetings," the club's statement said. "We are afraid, however, that we may have hundreds of people showing up to our meeting tomorrow evening. We've discussed bouncers. No joke. We find it all rather absurd."
