According to a Feb. 27 press release, five students received a memo that their involvement in the study-in was grounds for "disciplinary proceedings." 

GIC was established in 1984 to support the University's underrepresented communities and build intercultural awareness on campus.

The 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Symposium on social change began on Jan. 15. It will continue through Feb. 3, aiming to “reaffirm [the University’s] commitment to the betterment of our communities."

The event was first held in 2009 and aims to provide a space for Penn community members to use humor while creating literary-inspired, edible works of art. 

Students celebrated Filipino American History Month in October, with events including the annual Halo-Halloween celebration hosted by the Penn Philippine Association. 

The Krishna P. Singh Center for Nanotechnology, which has facilitated innovative research in targeted medicine and fabrication of nanomaterials, celebrated its 10-year anniversary on Oct. 26. 

Shafik served as a visiting associate professor at the Wharton School from January to June 1996 and now assumes the role of the first female president at Columbia University. 

The campus workshop, which ran from Sept. 29 to 30, marks the second year that the programming was held in-person.
