Women's Basketball


Orie’s path to competing at Penn was atypical. The Buffalo, N.Y. native grew up as a multi-sport athlete, sampling nearly every sport that she could. Even when it came time to specialize in sports early in high school, running hadn’t crossed Orie’s mind yet.

After it was canceled a year ago due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will return this year on March 19. Unfortunately for the Ivy League, there will not be any teams from the Ancient Eight participating in this year’s tournament after the league canceled the winter season. However, there will be a handful of graduate transfers from the Ivy League who will still look to make an impact in March Madness.

Growing up in Croatia, Curnic found a love for tennis at the age of five. Despite the strong competition, she performed well in all of her tournaments and started to take tennis more seriously when she was 11, playing for the Croatian national team. Eventually, she found herself on a much larger stage, competing in tournaments across Europe at the age of 15.

Ed Stefanski played for Penn men’s basketball from 1973 to 1976 in a mostly supplemental role under legendary coaches Rollie Massimino and Chuck Daly. In 1999, Stefanski fully invested his professional life into basketball, accepting a scouting job with the New Jersey Nets. He has since ascended to the role he holds today, Senior Advisor of Basketball Operations with the Detroit Pistons.

Title IX, a federal civil rights law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972, was enacted June 23, 1972 and its interpretation was published in June, 1974. It was designed to prevent discrimination based on sex in educational programs or activities, including athletics.
