Sophomore Dana Bonincontri led the Quakers with a second-place performance on the uneven bars and third place in the all-around competition at the one-day invitational hosted by George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
The Penn gymnastics team came close to upsetting Cornell but couldn’t overcome the recently crowned Ivy League champion’s powerful presence in the floor competition.
Though the Ivy Classic remained close throughout its duration, ultimately the Quakers were forced to settle for the bronze for the third year in a row.
Getting healthy was all it took for the Penn gymnastics team to have its best performance of the season. At the Shelli Calloway Invitational in Towson, Md., the Quakers recorded their highest score this season, with 186.4.
With a complete lineup for the first time in months, the Red and Blue will travel to Towson, Md., for the Shelli Calloway Invitational, where they will take on the Tigers, Cornell, Temple, and Ursinus.
Competing against four Pennsylvania opponents, the Quakers finished the night with a score of 181.200 — only 0.525 behind second-place finisher Ursinus.
