It was an average morning in June 1957 as Bruce Dern — a young, 21-year-old man with unmistakable Elvis-style sideburns — hopped into a Breyer’s ice cream truck at 14th and Broad streets to begin his rounds for the day.

Last night, Penn students and alumni joined together in the Amado Recital Hall at Irvine Auditorium to hear Asada’s stories from abroad. After studying in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business, Asada became a foreign service officer for the U.S. Foreign Service in Pakistan.

Huntsman Alumni Matthew Asada C'02 W'02 Gives a talk on his career as an officer in the Foreign Service

Last night, Penn students and alumni joined together in the Amado Recital Hall at Irvine Auditorium to hear Asada’s stories from abroad. After studying in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business, Asada became a foreign service officer for the U.S. Foreign Service in Pakistan.

On Tuesday night, Brandywine Realty Trust along with Campus Crest Communities, Inc. and Harrison Street Real Estate Capital announced they will collaboratively develop a new student housing building called The Grove at Cira Centre South. The building will be located at 30th and Chestnut streets and is expected to be complete by fall 2014.

While controversy can be prevalent on campus — from questions of diversity to off-campus living conditions — Penn offers numerous resources to resolve such disputes.University offices such as the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of Student Conduct serve as forums to resolve disagreements between parties.


	The new cafe at PennDesign’s Meyerson Hall could open as early as next Friday. The cafe will be operated by 12th Street Catering.

As soon as next week, students will have a new convenient option for breakfast, lunch or dinner on campus. The “PennDesign Café” is scheduled to open in the lower level of Meyerson Hall as soon as next Friday.



	Du Bois College House faced much controversy when it was first proposed by students in 1972 — receiving criticism from other students and even the NAACP.

The Du Bois College House was founded in 1972 after an increased enrollment of African American students due to the civil rights movement. Forty years later, the organization celebrates its anniversary and retains it’s identity as a ‘cultural center.’


BDS -- Penn for Palestine hosted speaker.

Omar Barghouti — a pro-Palestinian researcher, human rights activist and author — spoke at Claudia Cohen Hall Tuesday. His lecture, hosted by Penn for Palestine and PennBDS, in partnership with Philly BDS and Philadelphia Jewish Voice for Peace, was titled “Israel is No South Africa.”

Humor and comedy have always been a central part of the Penn Band since its inception in 1897. This year, two College sophomores, Kylie Murrin and Lauren Mendoza, are leading the Penn Band in that same direction.
