Craig Gronczewski stepped into his role as the new CEO of Penn Medicine Doylestown Health last week.
Gronczewski, who previously worked at Penn Medicine Princeton Health, officially became CEO on June 1 after being named to the position last month. The University of Pennsylvania Health System acquired Doylestown Health — a Bucks County provider — in April 2025, adding its flagship 245-bed Doylestown Hospital as the seventh hospital in Penn Med’s network.
Prior to his appointment at Doylestown Health, Gronczewski served as chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs at Princeton Health since December 2020, and also held roles as president of the medical staff and as a member of the Princeton Health System Board of Trustees. He received a Wharton MBA in 2011.
A request for comment was left with Gronczewski and Penn Med.
In a release, Health System CEO Kevin Mahoney wrote that Gronczewski’s “deep roots within the Penn Medicine system” make him “exceptionally well-prepared” to lead Doylestown Health. Mahoney’s own term — which was set to expire next June — was just extended last week.
Doylestown Hospital, located 30 miles north of Philadelphia, was founded over a century ago and has a medical staff of 600 providers across more than 50 specialties. In the release, Health System COO Michele Volpe wrote that Gronczewski’s “ability to build genuine connections” matters “deeply to the physicians and employees,” as well as to the surrounding community.
Last month, the Health System released a report of its operating profits from July 1 to March 31 — the first to incorporate numbers from Doylestown Health. The posting showed that the Health System had a $238 million operating profit in the first nine months of fiscal year 2026, with the Doylestown Health acquisition contributing $109 million in Health System revenue during the first quarter of FY26.
At a May 14 meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee of the University Board of Trustees, Vice President for Finance and Treasurer Colleen O’Neill highlighted the addition of Doylestown Health to the Health System as one component of the overall increase in Penn’s revenue.
