Penn women’s basketball sophomore guard Sarah Miller will transfer to the University of California at Irvine.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Miller announced on April 4 that she was entering the transfer portal after seeing limited action this past season. In stark contrast to the 2024-25 season, when she played in all 28 games and made 11 starts, Miller only appeared in 15 matchups for an average of 3.2 minutes per game this year.
The Phoenix native made the announcement on social media.
In her rookie season, Miller made quite an impact, especially during non-conference play. In the inaugural women’s Big 5 Classic, Miller had a breakout game — draining four three-pointers in a three-minute span en route to a game-high of 21 points in Penn’s victory over La Salle. For that performance, Miller earned two honors: Ivy League Rookie of the Week and USBWA National Freshman of the Week.
She ended that season averaging 5.5 points per game on 37 three-pointers — second-most on the team — while shooting 35.9 percent from beyond the arc.
“Grateful for my family, teammates, coaches, and everyone at Penn. The lessons here mean everything,” Miller said of Penn in her initial transfer portal announcement.

In the offseason, Miller stayed busy on the court as part of the Japanese national team’s training camp. In Japan, Miller seized the opportunity and earned a spot on the game day roster for the series against Chinese Taipei and China.
In her international debut against Chinese Taipei, Miller came off the bench with a team-high 12 points — shooting 4-to-7 from beyond in about 11 minutes. That summer, Miller told The Daily Pennsylvanian that a goal of hers was to play basketball professionally.
Before Penn, Miller shone in Arizona with her dedication to self-improvement, propelling her to state championship and conference player of the year honors in her senior year.
In her return to the West, Miller is joining UC Irvine during a strong run.
With a 26-5 regular season record, the Anteaters won a share of their second Big West regular-season championship in four years while breaking multiple single-season program records. Miller will join a guard rotation looking to fill the shoes of Big West Newcomer of the Year Jada Wynn, who is set to graduate.
