Penn President Amy Gutmann spoke up for free speech, particularly on college campuses, on Friday when speaking with HuffPost Live at the World Economic Forum.
"I believe that free speech is the life blood of a thriving democratic society and it is also critical; it is part of the DNA of colleges and universities," Gutmann said. "We exist in order to open knowledge for the whole world."
On top of that, Gutmann said that it was particularly important to stand up for offensive speech, even if you don't agree, saying that offensive free speech can lead to discussion.
She added that there is "a courage to live in a society with free speech" but that there is a protection on it, despite the tragedy of attack on Charlie Hebdo in France.
