California schools requiring sexual consent

California state-funded schools will now require consent before students have sex. 

A new bill signed by governor Jerry Brown defines consent as an “affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity.” California is the first state to mandate verbal, explicit consent in its public colleges.

The law has sparked a range of reactions. Many are encouraged by the notion of California cracking down on sexual assault and what they see as a law that will "improve the sex lives of Calfornians." Others are troubled by what they see as government overreach into the private lives of college students.
