Another year, another NCAA Tournament bid.

Penn women’s lacrosse (11-5) will face Virginia (9-9) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 3 p.m., in Washington, D.C. If the Quakers win, they will square off with host No. 6 Georgetown in the second round.

Penn and Virginia matched up back in February during the Penn Spring Fling Scrimmages, which also featured Georgetown.

The tourney marks Penn’s seventh straight NCAA appearance and ninth in school history. This will be the first ever meeting between Penn and Virginia.

The Cavaliers, meanwhile, are playing in its 18th NCAA Tournament in a row. Virginia lost to Duke in the NCAA second round a year ago.

The Quakers are coming off a 2012 NCAA Tourney appearance in which they lost to Loyola (Md.), 10-9 (OT). Penn hasn’t won a game in the Big Dance since 2009, when the Quakers advanced to the semifinal round before bowing to Northwestern, who also beat the Quakers in the 2008 National Championship Game.
