A pre-trial conference was held Wednesday for Leslie Mosby, the alleged carjacker involved in the shootout at 40th and Locust streets last November.

A scheduling conference is set for March 16, said Diana Martin, secretary for active criminal records for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

Partial discovery was passed at the conference, meaning that the judge accepted evidence from both the prosecution and the defense, Martin said.

Each side will have the opportunity to present further information at the next conference, where the court will begin to prepare for trial.

“Once both sides are ready for trial, they’ll continue and move forward,” Martin said.

Mosby, who turned 19 this January, was not present yesterday. He is facing charges of attempted murder of the first degree, simple assault, aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer.

No plea was entered yesterday.

“In this case, based on what this man is looking at, I can’t imagine there’s going to be any plea [bargain],” said Richard McSorley, the supervising trial commissioner for Mosby’s arraignment, in a Feb. 2 article in The Daily Pennsylvanian.

Mosby is on trial for allegedly carjacking a gray Cadillac at 50th and Arch streets just before 3 a.m. on Nov. 23. After crashing the vehicle into the barriers located at 40th Street and Locust Walk, Mosby dropped his weapon and ran across High Rise Field.

He was apprehended by police on 39th and Walnut streets.

Karl Sappleton, who was with Mosby in the vehicle, allegedly fired at police, who fatally shot the suspect.
