With the score tied 2-2 after regulation and two overtime periods, the Brown field hockey team entered into a stroke-off against Vermont Sunday.

It was leading scorer and sophomore forward Leslie Springmeyer’s two goals in regulation that had sent the game into overtime.

Because the Catamounts missed three of their four strokes, the Bears began to celebrate after sophomore Bridget McNamara and junior Cassie Puhalla put their strokes past Vermont goalkeeper Kristen Heavens.

The Bears needed one more goal, however, from junior Tacy Zysk to get the win.

“Honestly, I thought the refs counted wrong and that I didn’t actually need to take it,” Zysk told the Brown Daily Herald, “but I said, you know what, I’ll just shut everybody up and put it away.”

Doubling up in double OT. Senior midfielder Ali Hubbard’s first goal of the season earned the Dartmouth women’s soccer team a double-overtime victory, 2-1, over Ivy foe Princeton Saturday.

The Tigers got on the board first when freshman midfielder Caitlin Blosser headed the ball into the net off of a cross from Stephanie Iantorno.

The Big Green retaliated thirteen minutes later when freshman forward Aly O’Dea picked up her fifth goal of the season.

The game-winner did not come until the 102nd minute when Hubbard sent a header of her own past Princeton goalkeeper Alyssa Pont.

Big Red sweep. Cornell volleyball earned its first conference win Saturday.

The Big Red defeated Columbia in three commanding sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-18).

Freshman outside hitter Deveney Pula led the way for Cornell with 10 kills, three blocks and only four errors in 27 attempts.

The Lions led the first set 11-7, but the Big Red were able to tie it up three more times before closing the set with an ace by senior libero Megan Mushovic, who led Cornell with 30 aces last season.

“We ran our system well with a fast offense and we were able to shut down some of their key hitters,” outside hitter Alessa Cekauskas told The Cornell Daily Sun.

The third set was tied at 13 before the Big Red pulled away, due in part to a 7-1 scoring run sparked by Padula’s two kills.
