Penn ranked top IT employer

This week, Computer World ranked Penn fourth in their national list of the 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology. The University is also ranked first in the Mid-Atlantic region.

"Our ranking is an indication of both the strong benefits that Penn provides to employees and of the vibrancy of the Penn IT community," ISC Vice President Robin Beck wrote in a statement, citing production of administrative and student products and services as one example.

Penn has 283 IT employees, of who approximately 35 percent were randomly selected to complete the 80-question web survey that contributed to the magazine's list. The survey asked employees about work assignments, management practices, training, retention, diversity and pay and benefits. Penn ranked first in the benefits category and second for diversity.

Penn's position on the list is in front of major companies including shipping powerhouse FedEx, Penn's insurance supplier Aetna and telecommunications provider Verizon.

Penn is also the highest ranked of the five universities to make the list. They include the University of Miami, George Washington University and Temple University. The only other member of the Ivy League to make the list is Cornell University, ranked 93rd.

Computer World, an award winning weekly IT publication and website, compiled their 16th annual list based on a survey of over 27,000 IT workers.
