Incumbent James Roebuck, Jr., 63, is running unopposed for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives seat from the district of West Philadelphia.
"I hope [the lack of opposition is] confirmation that I've been doing a great job as state rep," he said.
Roebuck, a Democrat, has been in office since 1985. He is currently the Chairman of the House Education Committee and a member of the House Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.
"I've tried to develop an aggressive legislative agenda, particularly around education issues," he said. "I am by background an educator."
Roebuck has recently been working in support of Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell's education initiatives. These include implementing free and full-day kindergarten, lowering class size and training more new teachers.
He also helped to lower the compulsory school age for Philadelphia to six. In other parts of the state, the age requirement is eight.
"I'm happy to be able to be in a position where I can do things that are positive, hopefully for improving the quality of education across the entire commonwealth of Pennsylvania," he said.
In the 2008 Democratic general primary, Roebuck received 100 percent of 12,787 votes cast.
