Some rooms in Rodin College House are missing smoke detectors.
Several students have reported that where the smoke detectors in their rooms should be, there are only exposed cords dangling from the ceiling.
Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush said she had not been aware of the problem, adding that the smoke detectors are only one component of three layers of fire protection.
The fire-protection system also includes a sprinkler system and a fully addressable fire alarm system.
"Even if the rooms don't have smoke detectors, they do have fire suppression," she said.
According to the Housing and Conferences Services Web site, DPS' Department of Fire and Emergency Services annually inspects all buildings to ensure that the University's fire protection systems are operating at a high level of safety and readiness.
College sophomore Brian Ho said he was not overly concerned about the lack of a smoke detector in his room, and planned to report it to his graduate associate at a hall meeting this week.
Rodin House Dean Ken Grcich did not respond to a request for comment.
