The Nominations and Elections Committee announced the results of the 2008-2009 student government elections last night after two violation charges postponed the results from Tuesday.
The Nominations and Elections Committee disqualified Class of 2011 College representative and UA candidate Lauren Albert following a violation brought by College freshman Marcus Goodwin, who also ran for College representative.
The charge claimed one of Albert's campaign posters was posted on the ground in the Quad, which is against a newly instituted NEC policy adopted this spring banning posters from being deliberately affixed to the ground.
The NEC ruled she was in violation of the policy, and Goodwin won the race.
"I understand why they had to do what they did," said Alberts, who said she does not plan to run again.
Vice chair of elections for the NEC Colleen Donovan called the case "pretty cut and dry," but said the NEC is planning to reassess its entire poster policy for next year.
A second violation of NEC poster policy was jointly filed by Wharton freshmen and class president candidates Andrew Dudum and Keith Williams, the current class president, against College freshman and class president candidate Adam Behrens, but was withdrawn the next day.
Behrens, the current freshman vice president, won the race for class president with 546 votes. Williams came in second with 416 votes and Dudum in third with 316 votes.
"It was a very close race and I don't really think any of us had a grasp about how it would turn out," said Behrens. He called the violation a "last-ditch effort" by Keith and Dudum.
"It was a legitimate concern, and the reason we withdrew the charge was because we didn't really want to deal with the NEC hearing - if he won, he won," said Williams.
Wharton freshmen Jeff Kaplan and Eric Morris were elected as the new 2011 vice president and secretary, respectively.
The sophomore and junior class boards retained the same presidents. College sophomore Claire Choi was elected as the new 2010 vice president.
Eight of the 25 available Undergraduate Assembly positions will be filled by new faces next year, including College freshman Alec Webley and junior Joshua Roberts, the only new College members.
"I feel so elated to finally serve my constituents," said Webley, who also ran but lost in the fall freshman elections last year. He has been regularly attending UA meetings.
The UA candidates who received the highest number of votes for their school - College freshman Mark Peter Pan, Engineering sophomore Joseph Luchtan, Wharton junior Ben Coulter and Nursing junior Yana Sigal - will automatically have a seat on University Council.
Three incumbents-College freshman Leila Decker, Wharton sophomore Ankit Dhir and Wharton freshman Dong Chen - were not reelected.
