Wharton junior Felix Qu was arrested in connection to a domestic assault over winter break, but remains a student at the University.
The arrest occurred after Qu, 20, got violent during an argument with his girlfriend about what courses to take for spring semester, Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia Police said.
On Dec. 22, at around 11:15 a.m., police responded to a domestic assault call from a residence at 3928 Pine St.
The victim, Qu's girlfriend, told police that Qu threw her on the floor and then hit her with a towel, Walker said.
Qu then allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by her shirt, pushed her onto the bed, pulled her hair and punched her in the face.
The victim, 18, was injured, but not hospitalized, Walker said. Walker said he did not know if the victim was affiliated with Penn, and University spokeswoman Phyllis Holtzman said she could not say if the victim is connected with the University.
Qu has been charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person
He is currently awaiting trial, but was released from jail. He was released on $1,500 bail.
Qu is currently enrolled in classes for the spring semester, Holtzman said.
However, Holtzman said, the appropriate disciplinary actions are in progress.
Penn has policies in place for dealing with criminal action. However, due to confidentiality restrictions, Holtzman declined to comment on the specific details related to the University's response.
