The Division of Public Safety is launching an anti-theft campaign today with the goal of raising awareness and bringing opportunity theft down, Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush said.
DPS decided to launch the campaign because 80 percent of all crime reported in the Penn patrol zone during the fall semester was theft. Of that 80 percent, 70 percent was attributed to unattended theft.
"Safety and security is a shared responsibility," Rush said.
The Undergraduate Assembly, the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly, United Minorities Council and the Medical Emergency Response Team will all be collaborating with DPS on the campaign.
The campaign will feature informational cards on tables at libraries, dining halls and restaurants, Rush said. There will also be posters on bulletin boards and by elevator banks, ads in The Daily Pennsylvanian and upcoming event-related concepts.
The campaign will run until April 30, Rush said. DPS will then analyze the results.
