Softball sweeps Lions during first Ivy action
After its Saturday home doubleheader against Columbia was postponed, Penn met the Lions in New York yesterday, coming away with 11-6 and 3-1 victories.
Annie Kinsey led the offensive charge for the Quakers in the first game with three hits and four runs batted in. After two four-run innings for Penn and another with three, Columbia's four-hit, three-run rally in the seventh came up short.
Kinsey got Penn started quickly in the nightcap with a homer in her first plate appearance.
The bats were quieter for the Quakers in the second contest, as they registered three hits, compared to 10 in the first.
The Lions scored their only run of the game in the fourth on an error throwing home committed by first baseman Brandi King.
Coach Leslie King used just two pitchers on the weekend, with Emily Denstedt pitching all seven in the first contest and Erin Boyle doing the same in the second.
The Quakers will play their makeup doubleheader against the Lions today at 1 p.m. at Warren Field.
