A male graduate student was the victim of an attempted robbery Thursday night on the 4000 block of Pine Street.

Two males have been arrested in connection with the incident.

At about 8:30 p.m., the 24-year-old student was walking west on Pine Street when he was approached by two males demanding money, Division of Public Safety officials said.

Officials said the student yelled for a Penn security guard, and the two suspects then fled westward on Pine Street.

The student was not injured in the incident and no items were taken, DPS officials said.

Neither suspect was carrying a weapon.

A security officer approached the student, notified PennComm and followed the suspects.

Penn Police officers immediately responded to the call and apprehended the offenders at 41st and Chestnut streets.

DPS officials did not release the names of the two suspects because the offenders are juveniles.

Thus far, the two offenders have not been connected to any other crimes, DPS officials said, but the investigation is ongoing.

"That element is always considered," DPS spokeswoman Karima Zedan said.

This is the fourth robbery reported to DPS in the past three weeks, according to the University crime log:

n A male student was robbed at about 4:15 a.m. at 40th and Locust streets on Feb. 19. Four or five men reportedly attacked the student, inflicting a wound to his head. They took his bag, which contained his laptop.

n College juniors Albert Tsai and Julietta Chang were robbed inside of Hamilton Court on Feb. 3. Two male suspects were in the building prior to the robbery. One implied he was armed but did not show a weapon. The suspects left the building after Tsai gave them $5 from his wallet.

n Two University employees, one male and one female, were robbed at gunpoint by two males on Jan. 30 at about 5:55 p.m. on the 4100 block of Pine Street. Neither complainant was injured in the incident.

One of the suspects, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested the day after the incident.
