The vast majority of American adults want kids to learn about safe-sex practices - and abstinence, according to a recent report from Penn's Annenberg National Health Communication Survey.
In an article in the November issue of the journal Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, researchers outlined survey results from over 1,000 people.
Over 80 percent of respondents favor comprehensive sex education - including information about contraception and abstinence - regardless of political affiliation.
Seventy percent of respondents who identified as "conservative" said they supported such programs. This included instructions about how to use condoms.
"Abstinence should be part of that sex education, but to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy it is important to provide youth with the information they need to protect themselves if they do decide to become sexually active," Amy Bleakley, lead author of the study, said in a statement.
