Club sports roundup

n Women's Rugby. The team emerged victorious during the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union championship weekend. Defeating Bloomsburg University, Penn finished on top in the White Division and undefeated for the season.

At the semifinal game on Saturday, Penn dominated Saint Joseph's for a final score of 29-5.

Sunday's championship against Bloomsburg proved more difficult, but Penn pulled out a 10-8 win. Nawal Maalouf and Taylor Manus each scored one try for the Quakers, while Bloomsburg made one try and gained points on a penalty kick.

n Running Club. Participating in the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association Championships at Penn State on Saturday, the men's squad finished 11th, one place above Ivy League rival Cornell.

Sophomore Jeremy Estey and freshman Ben Guarino led the Penn pack on the 8-kilometer course, finishing 39th and 62nd, respectively. Dan Brickley, Jarad Mason and Tom Green rounded out the top five for Penn.

On the women's side, freshman Andrea Dumitrescu finished the 6k course 12th to earn All-America honors. The only other Penn runner who participated was sophomore Paia LaPalombara, who placed 28th with a time of 26:25.

n Roller Hockey. Despite an exciting late-game lead change, the team was unable to stay on top of Philadelphia University on Sunday, falling 7-6.

After trailing 4-1 in the first period, Penn scored four-straight goals. It rallied to a 5-4 lead when freshman Perry Clarkson netted his third goal of the game for his first-career hat trick.

Two power-play goals put Philadelphia back on top, but the game wasn't over yet. Junior Bo Boghosian gave Penn hope when he sunk his second goal of the game to even it up at 6-6.

However, a Philadelphia goal with under 10 seconds remaining handed Penn a 7-6 defeat.

n Equestrian. Senior Katie Carssow took first in both the open fences and open flat at the weekend's horse show hosted by Washington College at Worthmore Equestrian Center.

Carssow's performance led Penn to a fourth-place finish out of nine teams. After the weekend, the women stand in third in the nine-team region.

The flat includes the walk, trot and canter competitions; fences is the jumping event, with the highest hurdle set at three feet. During intercollegiate horse shows, riders and horses are paired randomly, so the challenge is to adapt to different types of horses.

Other high finishers included Katie Kuzinevich, who took first in the intermediate flat and Katie Cowling, who earned first in the novice flat.

n Field Hockey. Playing two games at home on Sunday, the women were first dealt a shutout by the University of Delaware, falling 3-0.

However, Penn was able to rebound in the next game, defeating Lafayette, 2-1. Gloria Aghaulor netted both goals.
