WILMINGTON, Del. - The jury for Wharton undergraduate Irina Malinovskaya deliberated all day Friday but left for the holiday weekend without coming to a decision.
Malinovskaya is charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 23, 2004, death of Irina Zlotnikov.
Zlotnikov was the girlfriend of Malinovskaya's ex-boyfriend, Robert Bondar, and was found dead in Bondar's Delaware apartment.
Jurors have deliberated for a total of seven and a half hours so far. The judge handed the case to them Thursday.
Jurors will resume deliberations tomorrow morning, due to the Columbus Day holiday today.
This is Malinovskaya's second trial for Zlotnikov's death - the first ended in an 11-1 hung jury in favor of acquittal last February.
Even if acquitted in the current case Malinovskaya would not be released from jail. Her student visa, which allowed her to live in the United States as a Russian citizen, has expired during her incarceration.
The Russian Embassy has been in discussions with the U.S. government over how to resolve the problem, according to Burnell.
